When there’s a will there’s a way! The Academy of Economics “D.A. Tsenov” in the town of Svishtov proves it so, as they implement all possible tools in promoting the Erasmus+ mobility programs amongst their students. Their international office has decided to take a further step into the acceptance and assurance of the program popularity in their university, namely by initiating the establishment of a local ESN section.
And what a better way to start, that by inviting motivated and dedicated members of ESN to present their organisation and values in front of the local students! It makes us proud to see such enthusiasm and determination from the university representatives, but what makes us even happier and pleasantly surprised, is their ability to capture the true words to describe ESN. Here’s what they wrote on their website, citing:
“A local section of Erasmus Student Network Bulgaria (ESN – Erasmus Student Network) will be created in The Academy of Economics “Dimitar A. Tsenov”. ESN Bulgaria is a non-governmental organisation, part of the European student network ESN International, and, up to this moment, there are 10 local sections in our country, established in universities in Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, Blagoevgrad, Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo. The organisation was created back in 2008 in Sofia and is built upon the idea of cultural tolerance and international dialogue. ESN’s values are connected with mobility, youth education and care for the students. The organisation works on a voluntary principle for the creation of a more mobile and flexible educational environment, supporting and developing the student exchange programs on different levels.
After the invitation of the International cooperation and projects center of the Academy, the vice-president of ESN Bulgaria and representatives of the local section of ESN in Veliko Tarnovo paid a visit to the university.
In order to help their Svishtov colleagues, who want to join the organisation, they presented in front of the students the ideas, the structure and the principles of the Erasmus network. “One of the most important values of the organisation is: students helping students”, the guests underlined. They shared, that most of the local section members in Bulgaria were first Erasmus students in a foreign university or took part in other exchange programs. During their stay abroad they faced different problems or were impressed by the way they were welcomed and helped to adapt to the new environment. After their coming back in the home university, those students seek a way to be useful for the arriving foreign students in Bulgaria. The members of the local sections also welcome the arrivals, they help them settle, overcome daily wants, break down language barriers, cultural misunderstanding or feeling of isolation, organize different social initiatives, trips and many other activities. “Our aim is to bring down the different problems to a minimum, by helping the arriving students, as well as the departing ones, in order to adapt in the best possible way to the new environment”, the guests shared further. They presented the projects, on which the organisation works on local, national and international level, as well as showed the opportunities in front of every student who is member of ESN.
At the end of the meeting, the guests underlined that for the Svishtov students will be much easier to create a local ESN section, because, they receive help and have the support of the International Centre of the Academy of Economics since the very beginning.”
